DPD wins second green award in two weeks

Firm honoured at the ?Sustainability Oscars' for waste reduction and recycling

DPD has scooped its second green award in a fortnight, winning the Waste and Resource Management Project of the Year at the highly prestigious edie Sustainability Leaders Awards, 2022.

The award follows hot on the heels of DPD being named ?Sustainable Business of the Year' at the Business Champion Awards in London.

Now in their 15th year, the edie Sustainability Leaders Awards recognise excellence across the spectrum of green business and are widely seen as the ?Oscars' of the UK's sustainability sector.

DPD collected the Waste and Resource Management Project of the Year Award at a gala ceremony in Westminster - hosted by TV presenter Chris Packham CBE. The judges praised DPD's thorough and innovative approach, that includes the creation of the DPD Eco Fund and implementing systems to recycle 70% of all waste.

The DPD Eco Fund is funded solely by the firm's own circular economy initiatives. Plastic shrink wrap used throughout the operation is broken down, and then recycled to create new shrink wrap. The money generated from this, along with the recycling of wooden pallets, goes straight into the Eco Fund to fund sustainable community projects benefiting the environment.

The award is the second time that DPD has been honoured at the Sustainability Leaders Awards. In 2020, DPD won the Transport/Fleet Management Initiative of the Year for its innovative all-electric micro depots in central London.

Elaine Kerr, CEO at DPD UK, commented: "Our aim is to be the UK's most sustainable parcel carrier and this award is further proof that our commitment is bearing fruit. This award in particular highlights for customers and consumers alike that there is much more to our green vision than simply having the industry's biggest fleet of EVs. Winning this award is independent recognition of the huge efforts made by DPD people right across the network to focus on waste reduction and recycling."
